Hi, there! I’m Melanie.

I’m a 5’5” brunette who loves long walks on the beach and dipping her toes in some exciting work experience. That was lame, I know.

Anyways, I’m currently in my sophomore year at the University of Maryland and I’m District Bliss’ new intern! A couple of things about me:

  • I was born and raised in Silver Spring, MD.
  • I’m a Studio Art major, looking to concentrate in Digital Media and hopefully one day live in New York!
  • When I was younger I played the clarinet, the flute, and the piano.
  • I love to read and write creative stories. I’m a sucker for sappy young adult novels.
  • I’m OBSESSED with the Food Network. I can’t cook for my life so I love to watch other people do it.
  • I can fold my tongue into a clover.
  • I’ve been learning French for 8 years now and want to be fluent.
  • I love looking up at the stars and the moon on a clear night.
  • I always try to lighten the mood with a lame joke.

Since I was young, I’ve always loved art. I was good at math and science but those subjects have definitely never been my forte. This is going to sound ironic, but I’m not really good at drawing or painting or doing anything that’s associated with “conventional art”. To me, art is more than just those traditional aspects.

Coming into college, it was very difficult to decide what to major in. I felt a lot of pressure to chose a major that fell under the STEM category even though I knew I really wanted to go into an Arts & Humanities field.

Art majors, and pretty much any major that doesn’t fall under a science or math, get overlooked and deemed as unimportant. I didn’t want to study something just for the 6-figure salary but something I knew I’d want to do for the rest of my life. Don’t get me wrong though, a 6-figure salary would be nice, too.

I’m extremely excited to work with District Bliss! Already, Sara & Sarah have been so welcoming and helpful and I know this will be a great learning experience.

♡ Melanie
