Lauren Louise Photography offers Unique Wedding, Lifestyle, and Boudoir Photography
Four years ago, Lauren Miller founded Lauren Louise Photography. Now, at 27 years old, she’s come to the DC metro area to share her talents with us! But, don’t worry – she will still travel anywhere in the world to photograph your special moments!
Why did you decide to open you own business?
After college I signed a year long contract to volunteer with AmeriCorps, the domestic Peace Corps. Since this position was unpaid and I was living on a stipend, I decided to start taking pictures of my family and friends to make extra money. After a couple of months, I fell in love with the idea of storytelling and I decided to transition photography from hobby into career!
What is one of your business goals for 2016?
Occasionally, I work with a set of creatives that second shoot for me. My goal this year is to hire on another photographer full time!
What is your favorite part of being a photographer?
The connections I make with clients, and all of the traveling I get to do! I love traveling to new places and meeting new people.
Do you have a fave memory to share?
My first wedding was for a couple who was supposed to get married in Mexico, but a hurricane came through and they had to change everything. Devastated, they decided to get married locally, on their original wedding date, with close family and friends; since they had already spent money on a photography for their wedding on Mexico, they hired ME! I was totally inexperienced and a nervous wreck, but the couple was ecstatic about being my first client! They’ve hired me for EVERY milestone since, including the births of their two children. I am so grateful for them!
We know you love all aspects of photography, but do you have a favorite type of event or wedding you’re partial toward?
Yes! I like the atypical. I am attracted to clients that are willing to trust my vision in order for me to create something great. I try steering away from the typical country club, traditional wedding. While all weddings are unique and beautiful in their own way, not all venues happen to jive with my brand and style of photography. While I happily photograph many country club weddings throughout the year, they’re not necessarily unique to the couple’s city and may not be showcased on my blog as much, as say, a wedding in an old farm house or a reception at an industrial brewery downtown. It’s not to say that the country club weddings aren’t beautiful (most are to-die-for!), but when it comes to showcasing my work, I’m interested in displaying the atypical.
Tell us a little bit more about your business
I want to get to know my clients before their wedding day. Engagement and Boudoir sessions are great ways to do this, and so is a meet up for a drink at a local bar!
Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
I’m 27 and I still can’t fold a fitted sheet, nor do I know where my lip line is. I can’t listen to Judy Garland without ugly-crying and I always choose the handicap stall in the bathroom – I like the extra space. I will most definitely dance at your wedding and bombard you with “sneak peeks” for days after your photography session.
