Why did you decide to start your own company? How long have you been in business?
My business partner Cody and I were dating at the time. He was a writer who needed a space to concentrate on writing. However local cafes and public libraries weren’t quiet enough. After half year of complaining, we decided to get an empty space, rent it out to others who have the same need. We then realized it was called “coworking” movement. The first year was extremely tough because none of us had any experience running a business. My neighbors started to ask me to rent the space out on the weekend for events like baby showers, weddings. It has been four years now!
How did you come up with the name of your company?
We have a mezzanine in the space. It reminded my business partner of his uncle’s “bat house” in RI. The English spelling was taken as a business name so we went with “bat haus”.
What is your favorite part about what you do?
I get to know a lot of different people, from all over the world that an ordinary job wouldn’t bring with.
Do you have a favorite story related to your business?
We hosted a baby shower few years ago. The mom came back a year later for the first year birthday and is going to book next year for her kid’s second year birthday party!
Do you have a favorite type of event?
I like baby showers and weddings in general because how happy people are.
Is there anything you’d like our readers to know about you personally?
I believe in personal relationships with my customers. From the first email a customer writes us to the very end of the event, I make sure I am the person who takes care of them. Imagine you wrote to a venue and Jennifer replied. You come to check out the venue, and it was Peter showing you around. On the day of, it was another person at the space on site. There’s a tremendous amount of details of each event that differs case to case. Each party has different visions of how they want to arrange tables/layout of the space, as well as their timeframe on the day of. By personally closely working with each party, I am able to take off the loads from my customers and let them really focus on the decorations/ease the stress they might have (for whatever reasons) on the day of.
