Meet Mabely Q’s founder and owner, Erin Perkins!
Founded in early 2018, Mabely Q offers graphic design, branding, and virtual assistant services!
Erin is one of our insanely amazing District Bliss Community Members and we couldn’t be happier to have her! Her input is invaluable during our Building an Empire roundtable meetings AND she is the District Bliss Sara-Organizer/Sanity-Saver (aka assistant). She manages email, schedule, our business management software (17hats), and so.much.more! We just love her!
How did you come up with the name of your company?
I wanted something that represented me and my family. One of the things that has been passed on from generation to generation is all of our middle names. Marie, Elizabeth and Emily. So, I combined bits and pieces of these names to create Mabely! I really also wanted to incorporate my favorite number 17. It’s been my number for as long as I can remember. So, while talking with my best friend, she came up with the fact that Q is cipher for 17. And, there it was! My company name: Mabely Q.
Why did you decide to start your own company?
I got laid off in January of 2018. During this time of chaos, I spent a lot of time trying to connect with people through the membership group I was a part of as well as LinkedIn. I found myself talking to a wide range of people and just really figuring out what I wanted my next move to be. I talked a lot with my husband and family about the next steps.
Then one day, I was on this webinar hosted by Abbey Ashley, and the more she talked, the more I realized – you know what, I can really do this on my own. So, that evening when my husband came home, I told him, “I think I’m going to start my own business.” He was pretty surprised to hear that come out of my mouth because I’ve been in the corporate world since graduated from college. My parents owning their own business and I saw how much work it was. I always thought I really didn’t want that, but there was just something about the Virtual Savvy Webinar that really got me thinking, I’ve got the skills, I want to be utilized in so many ways, I want to be an advocate of small businesses, and be one of those people that help them succeed! So, let’s do this!
I was pretty scared to tell my parents that this was my next step in my career. So, I told them to brace themselves before I shared the news. Surprisingly, both of them were completely onboard! They didn’t think my idea was crazy at all! Let me tell you, that was such a relief!! It has been so good because I know I can turn to them for support and ideas whenever I need to!
Bringing Erin onto the team has been a total life changer. – Sara, District Bliss CEO
What makes you unique, awesome, and stand out?
I really truly like to do a little bit of everything. I heard this phrase the other day and I really think it applies to me: I’m a learn-it-all. If there’s something I don’t know how to do, or I’m not quite sure how to do it, I’m going to put the effort forth to learn what I can to be able to do those things.
It is my goal for these small business owners to see me as their partner. I want the business owners to see me as an extension of their team. I’m that person that they can bounce ideas off of, lean on for support, and help them put their ideas into action!
What is your favorite part about what you do?
Connecting with people from all over! Constantly learning new things. There is so much out there that I feel like I had no idea existed, and now there’s this whole new world to me that I’m like I want to learn it all.
I LOVED WORKING WITH ERIN BECAUSE SHE HELPED ME BRAINSTORM IDEAS FOR EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED, THEN SHE DELIVERED BEAUTIFUL WORK! SHE HELPED ME TO IDENTIFY SPECIFIC PIECES THAT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO MY BUSINESS, KEPT ME ON TRACK THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS, AND THEN DELIVERED A COMPREHENSIVE SET OF BRANDING MATERIALS. – Meghan Russell, Owner • Poppy and Oak
Here are some fun facts about me:
- I’m quite obsessed with my fit girl tribe, we keep each other accountable on a daily basis no matter where we are in the world. I do get six workouts in every week! Strong body = strong mind!
- I have a Shiba Inu named Cota and I. Love. Her. To. Death! She’s so cat-like, such a diva! Most of the time she wants to be left alone, but when she wants her pets, she will not leave you alone.
- I’m deaf, but most people don’t realize it cuz I speak so well! I also love music, rock music in particular! Boy bands from the 90’s have my heart!
- About five years ago, my husband decided that we would take up snowboarding. I had never snowboarded or skied before that! Now we spend our weekends at the mountains in the snow. Goes to show you can learn new things at any age!
- According to my brother-in-law, I’m the only person he knows who regularly changes up my hair…. long, short, dark, blonde, pink… and more recently, a side shave! It’s a fun way to express myself 😉
