You know you need to be using video, but you’re not professionally trained…

Not a problem!

We asked Tara Garwood of Banner Day Films (and District Bliss Member) for some simple DIY lighting tricks to make your phone videos worthy of attention — and boy did she deliver!

Over the course of the next few weeks, you’ll gain some tidbits to help you hit the ground running and accelerate your online business!

Look at the camera, not the screen

  • Use widescreen (hold your phone horizontally, not vertically) unless you’re only shooting for InstaStories.
  • You want to have a little bit of room above your head, but not too much. Same goes for your nose, if you’re not facing the camera — there should be extra space in front of your face, not behind you.
  • Either center yourself or use the rule of thirds (the crosshair overlay on your phone will show you what that looks like).
  • Consider your light source and your background.
